As promised, here is a quick guide to correcting ESS projects. Apologies for the very basic page.

Research Project - OL Grade D

First of all, here's a project that scored a D grade at Ordinary Level. You can see it's from quite a weak child and he has mostly stuck in bits downloaded from the Internet. However, he does have a contents and a source page, he has used some pictures in appropriate locations and he has tried to do something a little bit different with his piece on songs.

Please use Ctrl and + to zoom in on images if you need to. Ctrl and 0 to get back to normal.

His scores would have been:
Aim - 0
Org. of material - 2
Historical content - 1
Cand's understanding of Hist cont - 0
Format etc - 3
Illustrative material - 2
Sources, contents - 3
Conclusion - 2
Init. and Orig - 3

Total - 16, which would have been a pass.
Had he put in an aim, even rudimentary labels on his photos or a tiny bit of writing commenting on the songs or poems, he could have scored into the 20s.

Research Project - OL Grade B

This girl is a good OL student.
Please use Ctrl and + to zoom in on images if you need to. Ctrl and 0 to get back to normal.

Her scores would have been:
Aim - 4
Org. of material - 4
Historical content - 2
Cand's understanding of Hist cont - 2
Format etc - 5
Illustrative material - 2
Sources, contents - 3
Conclusion - 4
Init. and Orig - 7

Total - 33, which would have been a High B.

Research Project HL - Grade A

Good HL student.

Again, please use Ctrl  and + to zoom in on images. Ctrl and 0 to get back to normal.

The scores would have been:
Aim - 5
Org. of material - 4
Historical content - 3
Cand's understanding of Hist cont - 3
Format etc - 5
Illustrative material - 2
Sources, contents - 3
Conclusion - 4
Init. and Orig - 9

Total - 34, which would have been a Low A, but an A nonetheless.

Here is a link to a 40/40 HL Research Project. It is an outstanding piece of work, with obviously a dedicated teacher driving them on. It is very impressive, but not unachievable with a co-operative child.
Full marks HL research project
