Free Sites to build a family tree
https://www.familysearch.org/en/
This is the site of the Church of Latter Day Saints. You can make a free account and can build your family tree for free.
They will give you lots of hints, suggesting people you are related to, but be careful to get evidence for a link before adding anyone to your tree.
https://www.wikitree.com/
You can build a free family tree on this site.
It is a little bit confusing to use, but some people love it.
You can also build a tree on ancestry, findmypast, myheritage and many others.
Once your tree gets over a certain size they look for payment.
DNA tests
There are many sites offering DNA tests, at various prices.
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/dna/
https://www.familytreedna.com/
https://www.myheritage.com/dna
All the DNA sites show matches between people who test with them with other people who test with them.
Some allow people who have tested with another company to upload their results to a different site.
The more people from different generations that you can test from your family, the better your chance at good results.
Most DNA tests will show tens of thousands of matches, but most of them will be too distant a match to ever work out what the connection is.
No matter what company you tested with, it is possible to upload your results to GEDMatch.com where you can compare with other people and use a variety of tools to work with your results.

Claire Santry's website
This is probably one of the most useful sites. She always has up to the minute news. Keep an eye on it for special offers and 'free' weekends from the paid sites.
Usually at Patrick's day they give some free access.
https://www.irishgenealogynews.com/
FromIreland.net
Another good site is from ireland.net. They have free gravestone transcriptions and photos and lots of useful information.
There are a lot of ads on the site, which is annoying, but you can maybe use an adblocker to stop them.
